Cover Crop Competition
We launched our inaugural Cover Crop Competition in Jersey in 2024, aiming to promote sustainable farming practices and biodiversity on the island. The competition featured four categories: Best Bird Cover Crop, Best Visual Cover Crop, Best Pollinator Cover Crop, and Best Soil Health Cover Crop. This initiative has had a significant impact on the community, encouraging local farmers to adopt innovative techniques that enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, and support vital ecosystems. Research conducted during the competition revealed impressive results, including a 30% increase in pollinator species diversity, a 15% improvement in soil organic matter content, and a 25% increase in bird visitations to winning fields. By engaging various local organisations and experts in the judging process, the competition has fostered collaboration and knowledge-sharing within Jersey's agricultural community, setting a new standard for sustainable farming practices on the island.
