Sustainability
Jersey Royal Company is a family-owned company with deep roots in Jersey's agricultural heritage. We have dedicated initiatives that support our dedicated farming operations and network of independent growers that help promote sustainable farming and agriculture. All farms we work with on the island are LEAF Marque certified.
Sustainability strategy
Jersey Royal Company’s sustainability strategy guides our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable farming practices. The company is actively working to reduce absolute on-farm carbon emissions by 30% by 2030, in collaboration with Trinity Agtech, aligning its efforts with the global 1.5°C target (scope 1 and 3 FLAG emissions).
Cover Crop Competition
The group launched an innovative Cover Crop Competition for Jersey growers, aimed at promoting biodiversity and sustainable farming practices in 2024. The competition features four categories: Best Bird Cover Crop, Best Visual Cover Crop, Best Pollinator Cover Crop, and Best Soil Health Cover Crop. This initiative not only celebrates the hard work of Jersey's farming community but also encourages practices that benefit the island's wildlife and environment. This will be an annual competition to continue to see the positive impacts we achieved in 2024 and into the future.
Jersey Ecology Fund Support
The competition has received valuable support from the Jersey Ecology Fund, operated by the States of Jersey. This funding will enable engagement of a land management or ecology student for surveying and data collection; Monitoring of pollinators, birds, and wildlife in cover crop areas; and high-standard judging and highlighting of environmental benefits.
Cultural Engagement
Jersey Royal Company actively participates with key Jersey cultural events, including sponsoring a float at the beloved Battle of Flowers festival. This involvement demonstrates their commitment to celebrating and preserving Jersey's unique traditions. Through these diverse initiatives, we can continue to play a vital role in Jersey's agricultural landscape, fostering sustainability, biodiversity, and community spirit.
