Durrell’s Tortoise Takeover

In 2023, 50 giant tortoise sculptures were kept on our Jersey site for two weeks as part of Durrell’s Tortoise Takeover. The Tortoise Takeover follows the success of the Gorilla Trail (in 2019) to raise money for improved and more sustainable facilities at the Reptile and Amphibian House at Jersey Zoo. 50 giant and 65 young tortoise sculptures were produced, designed and hand painted by artists before being distributed around the Island with a map to follow and an app to ‘collect’ each sculpture. A fantastic total of £720k was raised this year.
